The Importance of Concept Clarity

Being a student, I have experienced and also seen a lot of other students face problems due to a lack of conceptual clarity. A concept is an idea or a basic concept that helps us to understand more about something. For students like me and you, it is extremely important to clarify these concepts so that we can learn something in greater detail. So today, let's jump into this idea to understand more about concept clarity.

A concept is a general idea or an understanding of something. This understanding could be of anything, be it academic skills, financial skills, or life skills. A concept is like a rule that has been verified and so is shared with everyone. Unfortunately, we face some problems while trying to understand this concept. The concept can be extremely easy to grasp sometimes, but sometimes it can be extremely hard to grasp. Moreover, it also depends on the teacher who explains the concept. If the teacher explains in a good way, then even the harder concepts would become easier. However, if the teacher doesn't explain in a good way, then even the easier concepts can trick our minds. There are things that a student can do to teach himself the concept but also there are things that the teacher and the education system can also do to teach the students and produce knowledgeable citizens to the nation.

First, let's discuss what the student can do to clarify the concepts himself. This can happen when a student does not get a proper teacher for him to explain the concepts. Sometimes, when you are stuck on any concept, then you can find examples about it and think, "How has this been done." Let's take an example. Say you are stuck on a math problem due to a lack of clarity of concept. There are always example-questions given in the book that are just like the problem you have been given to solve. Find one or two of them, and write the example down again in your notebook. In this way, you will be able to infer what the problem essentially is and finally get to know how to find the answer to the question you doubted about. Also, to avoid getting stuck to problems like this in the first place, consider first reading and trying to understand the chapter properly, be it of any book that you read.

Next, let's see what a teacher can do to ensure that the concept he/she teaches, is grasped by all of his/her students. First of all, the teacher should not be try to selective towards students. Students start thinking that others are better than them so, they stop trying to understand the concept because of this sense of competition. Students stop trying to become better because of this competition. Another thing is that some teachers use many complex terms that become another new mystery for the student. Students need to be explained in simple, understandable terms so that they find the concepts that they learn easy. If the teacher uses complex terms, then those terms need to be clarified first so that they help make those concepts even easier to understand for the students.

The student and the teacher are the two main elements of a learning institution. Apart from the student and the teacher, there is someone else, who is also equally as important for the educational institution- the education system. I discussed the education system in a previous article. Proper education of the student not only depends on the student and the teacher but also depends on the education system, as all of the resources that a student should use for his/her learning are provided by the education system. In my previous article, I discussed that the education system is outdated and it crucially needs to be updated. I repeat the same here because it is the most crucial thing that is related to conceptual clarity. The student directly infers on what he has learned from the resources that have been made available for him/her as part of his/her education. If the resources are new and are constantly updated, then the student would infer newer things which would, in turn, allow the student to think about what we in the present do, and not what the past does.

So if you want to clarify your concepts and doubts, then these are my recommendations for you. As a student myself, I have a lot to learn and discover, and these are some of my discoveries to help you clear your doubts. Remember, your conceptual clarity is the most important thing. No matter how unclear the teachers are, no matter how outdated the teaching system would be, if you want to stay updated and always have your doubts cleared, then you need to work the most for it.
