Believe in yourself
Overestimation and underestimation are something that we all have observed, either for ourselves or for others. When learning to think in a balanced way, it is extremely important to learn not to overestimate or underestimate anyone, be it yourself or someone else.
There are a few decisions we need to make as an individual, and no other person can help us or guide us then. It is at that time that we have to rely on our capabilities and acknowledge them to make the decision. But, people who underestimate or overestimate themselves, do not have a clear view of their capabilities.
People who overestimate themselves think that they can do a lot more than their capability, which is not true. For example, people who keep on taking loans without having planned on how to repay the loans. They overestimate that they surely will have enough money at hand to repay the loans. But, it’s not always like that. Any unplanned actions may have serious consequences. Their overestimation of themselves might put them into great trouble.
On the other hand, people who underestimate themselves think that whatever they would do they would never make it. They refuse to acknowledge their capabilities. And because of that, they don’t get to see their potential. For example, people who give up on something too quickly. They think that however hard they try, it won’t make a difference in their lives or their work, but in reality that isn’t always true.
If you observe the previous two paragraphs, I used the words “acknowledge” and “potential”. Because underestimation and overestimation are all about the acknowledgement of yourself as way too above or below your potential. You underestimate yourself when you acknowledge yourself as too low when compared to your potential, which results in weakening your performance. And, you overestimate yourself when you acknowledge yourself as too high when compared to your potential; which again results in weakening your performance. Overestimation or underestimation just blinds your view and fails you to see your true potential, so neither underestimate nor overestimate yourself and weaken your views about yourself.
Underestimation or overestimation is all about believing in yourself. If you believe in yourself, and work hard, then you can achieve your goals. Hard work without belief in ourselves is pointless, as you might not get to that point where you want to see yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, then even if you work the hardest, you wouldn’t be able to make it because you would already have a perception in your mind that you won’t make it. But I also suggest that don’t just believe in yourself but also work hard. Belief in yourself is equally as important as working hard. If all that you do is believe in yourself and think eventually you will make it, and continue to think that working hard is pointless as you are going to make it eventually, then trust me, you will never make it. Learn to have a balance in belief in yourself and your hard work, because that’s how actual success is achieved.
