Why should we continuously expand our knowledge?

People beyond a certain age think that they have all the answers or they have acquired enough knowledge as much as they need. They don’t like to listen to anyone who is willing to teach them something they don’t know about. They resist to gaining knowledge and upgrading skills and remain stiff against it.

Today in 2021 and beyond, questions are more valued than answers are. Today, the world demands creative people, not stiff-minded people.

The changes in the present world are also more vigorous, and more dramatic. And so, the present world requires people who are always ready for change.

A person who has knowledge is ready for changes to occur. This is because the knowledge tells him that what he should do in a particular situation and what he should not do. Hence, if we gain more and more knowledge, we will have more and more opportunities to rely on in the future.

More knowledge not only means more opportunities, but also more experiences. And experienced people are the first choice of reference by most novices; which means that most people who have no idea about something new, refer to those people who have the knowledge of that thing, or the experience of that thing.

We can take doctors as an example. Mostly, in an Indian home, if someone gets sick, there are many home-remedies that their family members give them, which work most of the time, like when someone has cold then he is given cloves, black pepper to soothe the coughing. However, when the person does not get relieved from these home remedies, then the doctors come into play. We consult the doctors in case we are not able to see any improvement in the condition of our family members’ health and the doctors tell us the correct remedies and give us medicines to cure the sickness.

We can say that doctors have the knowledge and the experience about that kind of illness. And so, their consultation helps us to cure the disease or the illness.

But, there are times when even the doctors don’t have the cure. In these cases, the doctors and the scientists try to find the cure by any means. For example the COVID-19 disease. Scientists and doctors are still finding the cure and the vaccine has already been found. Guessed it right, if the cure doesn’t exist till date, experienced and knowledgeable people try to find it out and they are the people who can do it in the shortest possible time because of their previous experiences.

Hence, people like them become crucial for the society, especially for the modern world. They are the people who are actually changing and influencing the world.

Not just doctors and scientists, but also entrepreneurs, have tremendous respect for knowledge, and they should also be respected for their knowledge. If you look at any book of any finance author, who is also an entrepreneur, you’ll always find that they always try to inspire us that we should respect knowledge.

An entrepreneur is respected among people not because of the money he makes, but because he knows how to make that money. Let’s take an example of the worldwide known company Microsoft, created by Bill Gates. Bill Gates, as of today, has employed approximately 181,000 people in company Microsoft. And so all of us know that how important is his work. If he doesn’t do his work properly, then all the 181,000 people working with him would just be unemployed. Imagine 181,000 families getting broken. Same is the case with all other companies like Google (Larry Page & Sergey Brin), Reliance (Mukesh Ambani), Berkshire Hathaway (Warren Buffet), Amazon (Jeff Bezos), Tata (Sir Ratan Tata), Facebook (Mark Zuckerburg), and other big corporations known all around the world. The people running them are respected all around the world because they know how to start, own, and run such giant companies in the world. The surprising thing is that even after knowing so much about finance, these people say that they are the students of finance, and not call themselves professionals.

So this is how people from big entrepreneurs, to doctors and policemen, everybody should be respected for their knowledge. We should have an attitude of continuously expanding our knowledge, rather than trying to resist or remain stiff against change and expansion of knowledge. All people should respect the fact that knowledge is something that is crucial for all people at all times, no matter the situation.
