Why too little or too much is bad?
If you plant a sapling in the ground, which is not even the size of your finger, and provide it with lesser amounts of water, then the sapling will die. Also, if you give a lot of water to the sapling, then it will die as well. Neither too little nor too much water can help the sapling to grow and become a tree.
But, why too little or
too much is bad? Well technically, we only know that if something is in its
adequate amount, its best and if it is too little or too much, then it is bad.
First of all, let’s
discuss why too much is bad. Shouldn’t it be the more I do the more I get?
Well, yes, it is the more I do the more I get up to a certain extent, but
beyond that point it is not good. In fact, it is harmful beyond that point. As
an example, many of us like to eat chocolates and sweets, but if we consume
them in an excessive amount then they are going to create cavities in our teeth.
Not only too much of
chocolates, but too much of necessary things like water is also bad. More water
is not bad, but more water at the same time is bad. If you drink a lot of water
at the same time, then the sodium levels in your body may drop, which can cause
a lot of problems in your body. So it is best to drink an adequate amount of
water, one or at best two glasses of water at a time.
Now, how too little is
bad? Well our family and our teachers teach us this, why too little of
something is bad. For example they tell us that how something like doing too
little studies is bad, as it is not good for our academics. Let’s take the same
example of water. If you drink too little water, then your body will have to
face greater issues like transportation of nutrients in your body would become
slow, and as a result you will feel more tired. Our body wastes are also
comprised mostly of water, and so if we drink too little water then our waste
excretion process will not be able to take place which will make the body weak
and more prone to attacks by disease-causing microorganisms.
Water is something that
is physical, isn’t it? You can observe what water is in real life. But how too
little or too much of something which is not physical, harmful? Trust is a good
example. In many literary works like the Panchatantra tales by Vishnu Sharma,
this has been signified. There are many stories which tell that excessively blindly
trusting people is not good, which I give as an activity to you to go yourself
and find out by reading those stories.
There are many young
children who have been kidnapped by people whom they blindly trusted. They are
called child abductors. These people kidnap children upon giving them some kind
of avarice, like a chocolate that they like. Once the children come to take the
chocolate, the person kidnaps the child on the spot and runs away. This
happened because the child had trusted the kidnapper blindly. This is an
example of too much trust, which is bad.
An example of too
little trust is those people who don’t let their family members use their
items. They think that their family members will break them. It might or might
not be the case, it is 50-50. This happens even in siblings. The elder or the
younger sibling when gets something new, he/she does not will to share it with
his other sibling(s) because of the same fear. This thought process should be
avoided because all the siblings are equal to the parents, and so anything that
they get should be equal, without any kind of thinking like these.
So far we saw that too
much and too little of anything is bad, so always be somewhere in the
middle—neither use something too much nor too little, is the final message.
