Curiosity—the desire to learn
If I ask you, what is
curiosity, then what would be your answer? Well I know that most of you would
just read the title of the post and say that curiosity is the desire to learn,
but it is only a part of what curiosity actually is.
Anyone who wants to
learn something new has this curiosity within him of learning that thing. This
curiosity makes him ask more and more questions about that thing and know more
and more about that thing. Curiosity gives someone a desire to learn.
If you are curious
enough about something, then you will find more and more about that thing on
your own and without any kind of guidance. You will search, and search, and
search until you know exactly where you can mollify your curiosity. This
curiosity makes you get amazed of that thing and try to know more and more
about that thing.
When someone is
curious about something, then that person asks more and more questions about
that thing. Questions such as, “Why do we use it here?” or “What can make it
better?” Like we discussed in a previous article, “what, why, where, how and
when” are the five question words and a person who is curious enough to ask
them says.
Mostly, curiosity can
be seen in young children. You might often find them, “How is this done?” or
“What is this?” or “What do we do of this?” etc. kind of questions. Everything
that a young child asks reflects how curious is the child regarding something.
Curiosity is all
about asking questions. If we ask more and more questions, then we will be
getting more and more answers, and these answers will satisfy/appease/mollify
our curiosity. Moreover, it will help us to gain more knowledge, which will
help us to ask more questions. So the cycle of ask questions, get answers, ask
questions, and get answers keeps going on and on and on.
If someone forbids
asking questions, then that person is forbidding the curiosity that is within
the soul of the questioner. Forbidding these questions of the questioner and
forbidding his/her curiosity will make that person overall an ignorant person,
which will not help in the modern world.
You see, in the
internet age of the present world, questions have become more valuable than
answers. This is because finding answers is just as easy as a walk in the park.
Just enter your question, and thousands or even millions of results are
available for you to get the answer.
So today, we need to
ask more questions and verify have they already been answered by someone? If
not, then it is just like a gold ore found in a gold mine. We get the
opportunity to answer another question, which makes us more knowledgeable. We
can discover and invent more things that can help us to become more developed.
Curiosity will trigger these questions which will help us to answer them, and gain more knowledge. Knowledge of ours will help us to excel forward. So develop this curiosity within yourself to do become an excellent student.
