Why developing our mentality is important?
Today in the 21st century, we live in a world that is a mix of culture and development. People are cultural, as well as getting developed and enlightened. However, both of these scenarios require different mindsets, because they are different and are to be dealt differently.
For Example, in the book Rich Dad Poor Dad, Robert
Kiyosaki, the author, says that the advice that could be called “good advice”
in the 20th century, would not make sense to someone in the 21st
century. Today, because the number of people is a lot higher than it was in the
20th century, the advice that made sense to someone in the 20th
century was different, and more cosy compared to the present world.
The advice was, “Study hard, get good grades, and
get a secure job with excellent benefits.” Because the number of people was
less, the advice kind of made sense to someone of the time. Now, if someone of
the present time followed this very advice, to study hard, to get good grades,
and basically make yourself able enough to thrive in this world, and get a job.
This alone wouldn’t help, because as the facilities have increased, the
problems have also increased. We today not only face those problems that
someone in the 20th century faced, but also we have other things to take
care of. To understand this, let’s take a simple example. Let’s take
competition in the IAS (Indian Administrative Service) examination as an
illustration to further understand this properly.
The IAS, as you might already know, has three
steps to be qualified. First is the Preliminary examination, then the Mains
Examination, and then finally the Interview round. One who has qualified all
three of these examinations is said to have qualified the IAS or the UPSC
examination. The process is a fine thing, if one has proper knowledge and
preparation, then he can qualify the examination. The problem is the
competition. In the 2021 UPSC CSE examination, about 970,000 candidates
appeared for the Preliminary Exams. Among those 970,000, only 10,000 were able
to pass the examination, and only 9,214 students qualified the Mains
examination. And in that 9,214, only a mere 2,053 were able to qualify for the
interview. Think how big the deviations have become—from 970,000 to just 2,053.
And this is the problem. Those, who could not
qualify the exam, they have to do something to earn their living, isn’t it? And
they might already have chosen what they are going to do or want to try their
luck once again. In any matter, it is very hard to pass and get a job with
excellent benefits in the present. The main problem is—competition, because if
someone studies properly, then he is going to get what he wants, but because of
the competition, the numbers are so big that his progress gets deviated. This
is why we must do something ourselves to fall back on, and create an
opportunity for our own by our own. Maybe you might teach in a school, or might
just teach tuitions to students, or you are just an employee of some sort, this
is what I mean by creating your own opportunity.
Even if you don’t make a lot, there will certainly
be enough to support you alone being a student, provided, you put that money to
good use. If you just waste it off then you will always be in trouble and a
pitiable financial condition even when you make a lot of money. What I am
essentially saying is that learn to become your own leader, and practice
discipline within yourself.
Now you would ask me that how is it actually
related to the mentality? Well, it is because of your mentality that you are
sticking to the age-old dogma of the 20th century of just getting a
job, when you should be not only worrying about that but also trying to create
your own opportunities created from your own effort and hard work. So upgrade
and develop yourself not only physically, but also mentally.
