Skills that you must have

We all are talented in our own way. Someone is very good at singing, someone is very good at writing, someone is very good at sports, and someone is very good at learning things in a short time. Everybody has their own uniqueness and specialties that differentiate them from others and help them stand out and be their own self.

However, we all have to do certain tasks, which are the same for all. We all have to eat, we all have to drink, we all have to sleep, and we all have to carry out our life functions which we need to live. We all have to acquire some skills that are sort-of compulsory for all to learn.

There are many skills that we all must have and without those, we can’t properly thrive in this world. Everybody, regardless of their gender, colour, age, or any other trait; has to learn these skills otherwise the smooth functioning of their lives wouldn’t be possible. I’ve inferred and observed myself and my elders and so let’s see what you must compulsorily learn.

Sometime ago, my father was telling me about education. He said that whatever you learn at school or college is just a part of what education actually is. Education is of two categories—academic education and life education. If you are educated academically, then you will not have problems in getting what you want. You will have knowledge of the world around you and how does it function which is a very important and good thing to know. But, if you lack life education, or you are illiterate when it comes to life, then even if you have the best academic education within you, you will not be able to thrive in this world. Academic education is the knowledge, and life education is the implementation of the knowledge, and a few more things added to it. A few more skills, a few more ways.

And I think that this is true. At school, we learn Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Languages, and other important things to know. But your school does not completely teach you how to live your life. What school teaches you is only a part of what you learn as a whole. Your school teaches you mathematics, but does it teach you how to use that mathematics that can help you to prevent yourself from getting scammed? Your school teaches you economics, but does it teach you how to become rich? The answer is no. It is you who has to teach yourself how to become rich, or how to manage your time.

I duly respect what we learn at school. Without schooling, no one can become as intelligent as he can become. No one can discover their own potential. If they don’t discover their own potential, they would be dependent on others on their whole life, which is a big liability to the entire human society. It is extremely important for anyone to go to school otherwise he/she will have no clue of anything. He cannot understand whatever responsibilities that are imposed on him on his later part of his life. But academic education is all just a clue. It is you who has to use this clue to your advantage to become a better you. No teacher can teach you this skill of teaching yourself, keep that in mind. You have to become your own teacher.

So, now that we have understood why we also have to value our life education, let’s understand what skills under life education we must learn. First of all, we must learn how to manage, or management skills. Now, if you are a well-educated person, then you will say that this is what a person who does an MBA learns. But, what if I told you, we all have management skills. What? We all are not MBAs, how do we have management skills? We all have seen and attended many marriage ceremonies, haven’t we? We all have fond memories of those times. So let me ask you, the family organizing the marriage, has managed so many things already, the cooks, the servants, the tent houses, the family members, and other people who come to attend the marriage. Isn’t that what management is? Not for a few hours, but continuously for an entire week or perhaps even an entire month. Hence, management skills is one of the things we must have to become an efficient and disciplined individual.

After management skills, next comes communication skills. We must learn how to communicate with one, ten, hundred, thousand, or even millions of people. You must know how to communicate and therefore sell something to others. Sell? That isn’t a business, is it? Well, this isn’t a business, but ultimately, we have to learn how to sell, because after learning something new, we have to learn how to spread it to other people, so that we must get money in return. Let me give you an example. Teachers of schools. They aren’t selling any physical thing, but they are selling their knowledge for which they are paid. Selling is all about giving something to someone and getting money or something equally valuable in return.

Discipline is another important thing. Discipline is the ultimate thing that one must learn. Discipline bears knowledge, management skills, money-making strategies, communication skills, virtually everything that we do is part of discipline. Everybody is disciplined, some in a productive way, some in an unproductive way. So, we have to shift ourselves from our unproductive self to our productive self and discipline ourselves to become the best we can be.

And, last but not the least, avoiding the good-for-nothing attitude. Many people have the attitude, “Oh, others are going to do it…I don’t need to and so I won’t.” This is what I call the good-for-nothing attitude. For example, when no one is at home, such kinds of people don’t do anything on their own. Many parents in their bid of giving love to their children, they make them so much stubborn and lazy that they don’t learn to do anything that they should like cooking their own food. When no one is at home, no matter if they have to stay hungry all day, they will not cook their own food and eat it, even when all the ration is at home. Avoid the good-for-nothing attitude to the best of your ability otherwise you will never be able to achieve anything, and you will be lost in your dreams forever.

So this concludes this essay. I never said that I have not done mistakes in these regards; I am saying that the mistake that I have done should be avoided. I am trying to improve my own mistakes and also telling you not to make these mistakes yourself. Another important thing to note is that you must learn from your mistakes.
