Being Responsible

We are responsible for our consequences, or our actions are responsible for the consequences that we go through. The law of karma, as stated in the Bhagwat Gita, says that our actions are what imply to our consequences.

And the law of karma is true. The things that we do, the actions that we perform, imply the results, or the consequences. For example, if someone does a donation for the poor, then he will be respected and honoured among the society for helping the poor. The donation was the action, and the honour that he got is the consequence.

It is not always that the consequence of our actions are good, or beneficial for us. Another example to prove that would be a group of robbers robbing a bank. They might get the money, but as soon as they are caught, they will be sent to prison and all the money that they robbed will be taken back, along with some extra that the police would imply as fine. Here, robbing was the action, and getting sent to jail was the consequence. What we can infer is that if our actions are good, then our consequences or our results will also be good. On the other hand if our actions are bad, then someday our consequences will be granted and they will be bad.

So it is extremely important to do the right things, but still it depends upon the situation. Let’s suppose that you do something wrong to protect someone else, then your action might be wrong, but your intention was right. A great example is seen in nature—a mother protecting her kids. When the mother feels her children are unsafe, she does anything she can do save them, it might be right, it might be wrong. Her action might be wrong, but her intention is always right, to protect her kids.

Now that we understand the true importance of our actions, we must be responsible towards them. We must be attentive towards doing our actions, and doing the right actions. Sooner or later, we will have to bear the consequences of our actions, so, it would be much better if we were responsible towards our actions. We take the responsibility of having the right intention, even if the action that we do might not seem right at first. And most of the time, if our intention is right, our action is also right. It is only few cases that we do something that is not right with the right intention. But we must never have negativity and depravity within our minds, and we must have a positive and an encouraging mind-set.

Being responsible is extremely important at all stages of life. Whether you are a child, an adult, or an old person; you have to take your own responsibility of your actions. For example, if a student wants to score good marks, then he/she must work hard and gain more and more knowledge to score more marks. Here, the desire was good, or the result intended was good, which is to get more marks, so that action also had to be good to fulfil the desire.

But, we must do our works without worrying about the result. If we concentrate on the result, we might not be able to give our best at something, to make the action best, which would make the result the best possible. So, whatever you do, just do it. Don’t worry about what will happen, because if you are continuously doing something right, the result will come to you eventually, sooner or later. Some people keep on thinking, without doing anything, and are left alone, with nothing. On the other hand, some people are focused and continuously are doing what they are supposed to do to reach their goals, and they get what they want in life. It might be in any field, be it sports, business, academics, or any other field.

Remember, actions determine who a person is, not the looks. No one in the world would judge you for your looks, but they would judge you because of your actions, for the things that you have done. And your actions will automatically determine your results and your consequences. So, be patient, consistent, disciplined and responsible towards your good deeds, and you will see magically that you will be very happy at the end.
