Our environment: its threats and solutions
An environment is the physical condition that aids in the development and sustenance of all organisms; from microscopic to macroscopic level, from minuscule bacteria, virus, and algae to massive plants and animals. All organisms depend on the environment for food, shelter, and other important resources that will allow them to multiply themselves.
1. How species are threatened around the world?
The species of the world are threatened around the world because of two main reasons: one is natural phenomena and other is human activities. Natural phenomena is the reason for the extinction of dinosaurs. But, human activities like hunting, poaching, and illegal retail are the reasons for the extinction of animals. Humans are killing hundreds of animals every second which should not be done as it has been considered harmful for the ecosystem.
2. How cutting trees is harmful for the environment?
People cut trees of forests for many purposes. They want to expand the farmlands, which will yield more crops that will be financially beneficial for the traders. Billions of insects, trillions of microbes, millions of animals and billions of trees reside in the forests. Money can’t compensate for the lives of these trillions of organisms that have died due to destruction of habitat. This makes our ecosystem even more imbalanced.
3. Why do people need to be made aware of the problems created by us to the environment?
We humans are the reason for this intense destruction of our environment. The ecosystem is getting imbalanced day by day. Hence, if we make our people aware of this problem, they will understand and start working on solving this problem. And once we start working on solving this problem, our environment, at least, at some extent, would be able to replenish itself again.
4. What measures can we take at an individual level to protect the environment?
There are many things we can do for our environment. Even at the individual level. Some of the measures that we can practice at an individual level to protect the environment are:
i) Plant more trees
ii) Protect stray animals
iii) Volunteer in environmental activities
iv) Feed stray animals
v) Reduce using goods made out of plants and animals e.g. leather, paper, fibre
vi) Use eco-friendly vehicles
5. What measures the government should take to protect the environment?
The government should initiate these measures to protect the environment:
i) The government should encourage more people to plant trees.
ii) Illegal environmental degradation should be banned.
iii) It should initiate acts for the conservation of plants and animals.
iv) The government should ban illegal cutting of trees and hunting of animals
v) Schemes should be initiated for better conditions we can offer for plants and animals of the earth.
Hence, these are some of the many ways we can actually turn our world into a better place to live. Our contribution matters, other people will also realize that this is beneficial for the environment. This is how we can avoid all threats to the environment.
