Why only bookish knowledge not help anyone in the present all the time?

“Only bookish knowledge doesn’t help.” This is something that you might have heard, or read, or observed yourself in your experiences. Why is this observation true?

You might have also heard people saying, “There are many things that they don’t teach you at school.” I would say, this is true. There are many things that we don’t learn in school.

First of all, we don’t learn management skills in school. Of course, we learn math in school, but we don’t actually learn how to put that math to use by learning management skills. Management is not a subject, it is a skill that not many people possess. When you hear of management as an MBA, you might think that it is a subject, it is not. Let me show you how.

There are people who have never done an MBA, or have never gone to school ever. But still, you might see that many of those are expert at managing things, we Indians call that as “जुगाड़” (d͡ʒuɡɑd), which basically means that getting the most out of less amount of resources available. It is one of those exclusive terms of the Hindi language that no other language on the world can actually comprehend, that is, if you know the Hindi language, only then you will be able to understand its true meaning. It is a corrupt form of “युक्ति” (y- as in “you” u- as in “flute”, k- as in “kind”, t- as in “entrepreneur” and i- as in “is”), word in Sanskrit, which means a solution to a problem. It is not just a term, it is a management skill afterall.

I don’t know if this skill is exclusive to India, or is widely used all throughout the world, but I am going to share my experience with this skill. Sometime earlier, in a YouTube video, I saw that there was a poor YouTuber, who used his brain and his creativity to make a homemade tripod. He took a stick, of good-enough length, a candy box you will find at most general stores even in your area, and a plastic bottle. He took the candy box, cut it in half right from the middle, and then filled it with sand. Then, he took the plastic bottle, and also cut it in half right from the middle, and took the side of the bottle where the bottle-cap stays and cut a small piece half of the width of his phone. Then, he took the candy box, and he inserted the stick in such a way that it created a sturdy stand. Then, he took the upper-half of the cut plastic bottle, and inserted it in such a way that the stick stood like a sturdy stand. And, after the stick was held sturdy and strong in the sand of the candy box, he took the cut plastic bottle and tied it to the upper end of the stick. And voila, he had a tripod where he could put his phone and record his videos. It really isn’t a tripod but just a really sturdy phone stand.

You see, जुगाड़ is nothing but creativity mixed with the management skills. That person, who has made a tripod, knows how to manage his limited resources so that he can do his works easily with not much disturbance. AND, he did not learn this in his school. It comes from within. So if you think that the curiosity within you has diminished, then you are wrong. You can also do something like this when you use your creativity.

Now you might be getting what I am trying to say. You don’t learn this skill in school, and by that I mean that no book in your school teaches you this. Of course, book knowledge is important, but, this knowledge is also important because, more than the bookish knowledge, it is these skills that will come handy more often. You’re not going to go, “Hey shopkeeper, if I move 500 centimetres to the right and move to my left by 90 degrees then I will be able to access the potatoes that you have put in your shelf.” The shopkeeper’s just going to call you a madman.

This is a very deep thing, and, I want you to think about it more on yourself. Find sources on the internet about this, and you will be amazed that this is actually true. There are many things that bookish knowledge cannot fulfil and teach you, and so simply don’t be sturdy upon the fact that bookish knowledge is going to help you forever.
