What kind of behaviour should a student have?

A student is a person who is studying, or learning new things. Not only does a student mean a school-going or a college-going boy or a girl, but a student means anyone who is learning something new that he doesn’t know before. In this case, the attitude and the behaviour of the student matters a lot when we are talking about his/her career.

A good attitude is important. Not only for a student, but also for a grown-up. A good attitude helps everyone to think positively and motivate everyone around to become better than they already are.

Anyways, coming back to today’s topic, let’s understand what kind of attitude a student should have towards other people around and learning new things.

Curiosity and fascination

A student should be curious and should ask more and more questions about something. More often than not, it is the teacher who asks more of the questions to the student in tests and exams, than the student asking the questions to the teacher in the classes. This clearly shows that the student isn’t curious about what he/she is learning. This curiosity of the student should be encouraged, and he/she should also be encouraged to ask more questions.

The second thing is fascination. If the answers that the student gets, aren’t fascinating and startling to him, then there is no point—it is only going to dwindle the curiosity, rather than increasing it. The answers should be startling, and those startling and fascinating answers that the student gets, will help him to ask more questions, which will help him to further expand his knowledge.

Discipline and Consistency

Another virtue that is crucial to be developed by a student is discipline and consistency. Discipline teaches the student always on a routinely basis. Consistency teaches him to do something repeatedly so that he learns something good and grasps it properly. Many talented students are not able to succeed just because they are not consistent enough, and this proves to be their negative point.

Combining everything, we see that if a student has the following behaviours, then he is going to prove that he is a good student. They key to being a good student is being curious, disciplined, consistent, and fascinated. Many students don’t realise this in a long time and thus fail. So here’s a bonus point for you—be early, or do something as early as you can. Because the more time you will take, the lesser time you will get to grasp that thing and fit it in your mind. Never try to be late, always learn to be ahead of yourself.

One more important thing, never compare yourself to anyone else. If you compare yourself with anyone else, then you are only either getting disappointed, or delighted; not improving from what you are to what you will be. The world is full of competitors and there will be always someone who is better than you. So there is no point in comparing yourself with someone else. “Oh! He’s/she’s got more marks than me!” or “Oh! He’s/she’s got less marks than me!”—the first statement would only disappoint you and the second statement would only delight you, not improve you. So if you want to improve, then stop comparing and thinking that some other person is better or worse than you, because there will always be someone who is better or worse than you are in something. So remove the blindfold of “more” or “less” in your improvement.

Does that mean that you cannot do? No! It does not mean that you cannot do anything, but it does not mean that you can do everything either. You can’t be the best student, which is not possible for anyone to become. But you can become a good and a better student. Within everyone, there is a good student, hidden behind. Your job is to find and put him to work, and make him even better than what he is in the first place. That’s it. And you will see that you are amazed by what you can do and will be doing.
